Manual Machinist

Job Title: Manual MachinistJob Description
Produce machined parts by setting up and operating manual lathe and mill machines, cutting materials based on specifications in a blueprint.
Responsibilities

• Produce finished parts to meet blueprint specifications.
• Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
• Plan tooling and stock/materials needed.
• Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material as a guide for subsequent machining.
• Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as stock feed, coolant flow, speed, depth, and angle of cut.
• Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings.
• Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, adjusting controls as required.
• Shape steel, aluminum, titanium, plastic, and magnesium.
• Use lathes and horizontal boring equipment.
• Maintain production and quality logs.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in machine operating, particularly with lathe and drill press.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Troubleshooting skills for machine operations.
• Experience in changeover and programming of machine equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to use micrometers and calipers.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Experience in quality control of own work and that of the team.
• Experience using overhead cranes to move machinery.
• Ability to work safely and meet OSHA guidelines.
• Capability to work as a cohesive member of the Production team.

Work Environment
Work in an extremely clean shop environment with a usually loud noise level. Be prepared to lift up to 50 pounds. The environment includes moving mechanical parts, electrical parts, and vibration equipment. Safety is paramount, with adherence to safety procedures and regulations. Maintain machines and tools through preventative maintenance. Glasses are required, with hearing protection and safety shoes optional.

This is a Contract position based out of Burlington, WA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
