Job Title: 1st Shift Machine Builder
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled 1st Shift Machine Builder who will be responsible for reading and interpreting high-level machine building blueprints to assemble custom machinery for our customers. This role requires experience with precision equipment, tools, and calibration equipment. You must own and be comfortable working with various tools including hand, power, and pneumatic tools. Additionally, you will be responsible for running wire CAT tracks and assisting in pulling wire. Competency in operating mills, lathes, grinders, and welding machines is essential. Experience with hydraulic tube bending and lasering parts together is a plus.
Responsibilities
Follow directions from Engineering and Shop Management to build simple and complex custom machines.
Understand and manage the storage and retrieval of work-in-process parts and inventory supplies.
Operate shop equipment such as mills, lathes, grinders, welders, and various hand tools.
Apply a creative mindset and problem-solving skills to overcome technical mechanical challenges.
Demonstrate a passion for excellence and high-quality craftsmanship.
Understand, implement, and adhere to quality standards.
Show ambition and an inner drive to meet or beat project deadlines.
Collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Essential Skills
3-5+ years of custom machine building experience with tolerances of +/- .0005.
Ability to read and interpret high-level machine building blueprints and symbols.
Proficiency in machining, including mills, lathes, grinders, and welders.
Ability to assemble, measure, and test precision components and assemblies related to custom machines.
Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical drawings, with the ability to read and follow drawings for custom parts and assemblies.
Ownership and ability to use hand, power, and pneumatic tools such as sockets, wrenches, hammers, and drills.
Physical ability to bend, lift, climb, and crawl.
Willingness to travel as needed, approximately 20% of the year, primarily domestic and for actual installations at facilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
CAD skills with the ability to use Solidworks CAD software to read and understand dimensions, bills of materials, and tolerances.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as dial indicators and calipers.
Expert understanding of the principles of custom machine building.
Understanding and experience with hydraulics and pneumatics systems.
Experience with hydraulic tube bending is preferred.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elkhart, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $38.00/hr.
