AIRCRAFT EXAMINER (SHEET METAL MECHANIC)

Sheet Metal Mechanic

You will examine, evaluate, and analyze the condition of assigned sheet metal mechanic systems, components, and accessories for assigned aircraft.

You will determine the product condition by identifying and documenting all non-conforming discrepancies.

You will make informed technical decisions to determine and control the extent of disassembly and depth of repair and processing to only what is required and authorized.

You will interpret information from various sources such as: blueprints, detailed engineering specifications, and technical directives.

You will perform other duties as assigned.

You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

You will be required to obtain and maintain required certification and/or license as a condition of employment.

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

You will be required to lift and/or carry objects up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from other workers.

This position requires good eyesight, including the ability to distinguish colors.

You may be exposed to dirt, noise, moisture, fumes, and aircraft exhaust.

Work may be performed outside inclement weather and handle hazardous waste materials.

You will be required to wear personal protective equipment.

This position may be subject to rotating shift work and protracted hours.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO INSPECT, and includes the following: 1) Examining, evaluating, and analyzing the condition of aircraft hydraulic, pneudraulic, and other mechanical systems, components, and accessories; 2) Determining the induction configuration and establishing which technical directives must be accomplished to produce the required product configuration; 3) Applying working knowledge of examination and evaluation processes such as, induction, aircraft inventory, system evaluation troubleshooting, logbook review, technical directive review, and application of engineering specifications; and 4) Interpreting information from various sources such as blueprints, engineering specifications, and technical directives to accomplish work tasks.
