What It Takes to Master the Machines as a CNC Operator

• Technical Understanding: Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints, engineering drawings, and geometric dimensioning symbols.
• Software Knowledge: Familiarity with CNC control software, and sometimes CAM/CAD software.
• Mathematical Skills: Strong understanding of shop math for checking measurements and calculating toolpaths.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift, and work in, at times, noisy manufacturing environments.

What Your Workday Looks Like

• Machine Setup & Operation: Loading raw materials, installing tools, and configuring machine settings (speeds/feeds) for production runs.
• Production Setup: Load material on the horizontal bandsaw and operate.
• Production Monitoring: Supervising the machine during operation to ensure it runs efficiently and safely, making adjustments as needed.
• Quality Control: Measuring finished parts using precision tools like calipers and micrometers to verify they meet technical specifications.
• Maintenance: Performing basic preventive maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting to keep equipment in working order.
