Job Summary

We are seeking an entry-level Fencing Laborer to join a small, hands-on construction crew. This role involves working outdoors to install agricultural and residential fencing systems. Ideal candidates are reliable, physically capable, and interested in learning construction and fence installation skills on the job.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the installation of agricultural and residential fencing systems

• Dig post holes using augers and other equipment

• Load, unload, and organize tools, equipment, and materials

• Lift and install fence posts, panels, and gates

• Pour and finish concrete for fence posts

• Perform job site clean-up and maintain a safe work environment

• Use hand tools and power tools as required

• Continually engage in physical labor including lifting, stretching, and loading materials

• Work as part of a team to complete projects efficiently and safely

Fence Materials Worked With

• Agricultural and farm/ranch fencing

• Picket, privacy, and split rail fencing

• Cedar wood fencing

• Chain link fencing

• Ornamental steel and aluminum fencing

• Vinyl and composite fencing

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Interest in construction, installation, or general labor work

• Ability to perform physically demanding work , including heavy lifting

• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions

• Willingness to learn fence installation and construction techniques

• Basic familiarity with hand tools and power tools

• Entry-level carpentry skills are a plus

• Dependable and able to report to the shop daily

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills

• Fence installation experience

• Concrete construction experience

• Landscaping or site preparation experience

• Experience operating skid loaders or similar equipment

Work Environment & Schedule

• Outdoor work in all weather conditions

• Projects range from 50 to 600 feet of fencing

• Small crew environment working alongside experienced team members and a working owner

• Specialty equipment provided to reduce physical strain (augers, gas-powered post drivers, skid loaders)

• Schedule:

• Monday–Thursday: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM

• Fridays are rare and typically overtime

• Seasonal layoff when the ground freezes (historically around Christmas)

• Report to the shop each morning and travel to job sites in a company vehicle

Dress Code & PPE

• Jeans, T-shirt (no sleeveless shirts), construction boots

• Company-provided logoed T-shirt and sweatshirt

• PPE provided: hard hat, safety glasses, and safety vest

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ames, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
