Master Mechanic
As a Master Mechanic, you will be proficient in all aspects of mechanical repairs. You will receive instructions for scheduled and emergency repairs, installations, and various tasks. You will interpret drawings and sketches, inspect equipment for defects, and determine the best repair methods to minimize production interruptions. Additionally, you will advise on necessary equipment shutdowns and dismantle mechanical equipment to replace or repair faulty parts.
Responsibilities
- Inspect equipment and refractory presses for defects such as misalignment, wear, and insufficient lubrication.
- Advise on immediate shutdowns to minimize damage or when continued operation poses no harm.
- Dismantle, repair, and reassemble mechanical equipment, including refractory presses.
- Maintain company property like buildings, roads, and sanitation facilities.
- Serve as a mechanic in departments, adjusting and repairing machinery.
- Use burning equipment and electric acetylene welding as needed.
- Construct and repair wooden objects using carpenter's tools.
- Operate machine tools such as drill presses, grinders, shears, and saws.
- Perform necessary rigging and operate automotive equipment.
- Lubricate mechanical equipment according to procedures or manufacturer specifications.
- Maintain oil supply and report low supply to supervision.
- Clean and replace grease fittings as needed.
- Change press outfits and adjust components to proper sizes.
- Disassemble, clean, and prepare liners, filler blocks, and pads for assembly.
- Fit, align, and assemble mold boxes, ensuring proper checks.
- Place and store press boxes, liners, and other equipment properly.
- Mark identification on mold boxes as required.
- Work from instructions and equipment manuals to locate equipment issues.
- Troubleshoot minor electrical issues causing mechanical lockouts.
- Maintain and repair all equipment and tools.
- Clean motor assemblies and paint automotive equipment when necessary.
- Mentor plant mechanics and perform metal fabrication as needed.
- Complete reports on preventive maintenance and equipment inspections.
- Document work performed in a computerized maintenance management system.
- Keep equipment and work areas orderly and observe safety rules.
- Perform general laborer duties as necessary.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Pass a written test with a minimum score of 60%.
- Satisfactorily pass a practical hands-on welding and burning test.
- Ability to read mechanical and hydraulic schematics.
Job Type & Location: This is a Permanent position based out of Hammond, IN.
Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $93600.00 - $93600.00/yr. Benefits: 401(k) matching, dental insurance, health insurance, life insurance, paid time off, vision insurance. Compensation Package: Overtime pay, safety bonus.
