Traveling Structural Steel Field Foreman
A respected structural steel fabricator and erector is seeking an experienced Traveling Field Foreman to lead steel erection crews on commercial and industrial projects across the Southeast. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who understands steel erection operations, can manage ironworker crews, and takes pride in delivering safe, high-quality work in the field.
As a Traveling Structural Steel Field Foreman, you will work closely with the Field Superintendent and project teams to coordinate daily work activities, ensure proper installation of structural steel components, and maintain strong safety and productivity standards. This position requires regular travel to project sites primarily located in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise ironworker crews performing structural steel erection
- Coordinate daily work activities and communicate priorities to field teams
- Assist with steel erection sequencing, rigging, and crane coordination
- Ensure proper installation of columns, beams, bracing, and bolted connections
- Review structural drawings and erection plans with field crews
- Maintain jobsite safety standards and enforce safety procedures
- Coordinate with the Field Superintendent, project managers, and other trades
- Monitor crew productivity and help maintain project schedules
- Participate in daily toolbox talks and safety meetings
- Assist with jobsite logistics, material handling, and equipment coordination
Qualifications
- 3+ years of structural steel erection experience
- Experience leading crews as a Foreman or Lead Ironworker
- Strong understanding of steel erection practices, rigging, and jobsite safety
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and erection plans
- Experience coordinating with superintendents and project teams
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to travel to projects throughout NC, SC, TN, and GA
Preferred
- Background working for a structural steel fabricator and erector
- OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience on commercial or industrial steel erection projects
- Familiarity with AISC standards and structural steel safety practices
Compensation & Benefits
- $75,000 $100,000 DOE
